Personal Stories for a Sea of Change

Michael Cheng is an applied drama practitioner. He uses applied drama and action methods in working with vulnerable communities, social issues, and personal development.

He hopes to do his bit to hold a (Good!) space for whoever comes for his Personal Stories for a Sea of Change sessions. He doesn’t think about success and goals, believing that we already have enough of “that kind of thinking” in our lives.

Instead, it was a good chance to explore using applied arts methods to build spaces for support and dialogue. Michael also saw it as a good way to offer anyone a space to breathe, play, and connect.

Michael runs workshops using applied drama and art-making sessions for self-development, reflection, and community building. In this workshops, participants co-build a safe space for sharing and exploring current and relevant issues.

He hopes the space is good and safe enough for people to feel connected and nourished. If it is good, some people will come back. For those who don’t, maybe they have already received what they need. Whoever comes are the right people. Whatever happens is the right action. We will go where we go. Together.

Any issue can be explored, though the foundation of the work is to listen deeply to ourselves and find what is important, and to build community wisdom by sharing our findings.

Personal Stories for a Sea of Change is a workshop where we free our creative spirits. These sessions are for anyone and everyone who is curious and willing to come build a space for interpersonal connections, self-exploration and reflection, and mutual support.

Each session is unique, because everyone brings different things to it. Personal stories, drama games, art-making activities, movement practices, and dramatic improvisation, come together in an eclectic mix.

No experience in any artistic pursuit is necessary. All you need is an open heart and an adventurous spirit.

The dream is to offer as many spaces as I can for people to take time out from their lives, to relearn creativity and to be in authentic touch with themselves.
